August 1 – Star Trek: Beyond

The Star Trek franchise tried to revitalize itself and make newer audiences get acquainted with it through a series of reboot movies a decade ago, with Beyond as the last movie of the reboot trilogy.
In this new iteration, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto take on the big roles of Capt. Kirk and Spock. Other cast members include Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldaña, and Karl Urban. Idris Elba even joins the fray!
In Beyond, the crew gets a surprise attack from someone who wants something they have aboard the ship. They get stranded on a hostile planet, with a scary race of aliens at their heels!
August 1 – Red, Red 2
Genre: Action-Comedy
Nothing sucks more than getting cozy in retirement and then suddenly getting pulled back to the life you already left behind. That’s how former CIA Agent Frank (played by Bruce Willis) found himself in. One moment, he was just living his retirement life. In the next, he gets attacked!
So what does he do? Why, get his old gang back, of course! Nothing’s more fun than solving problems together and beating up bad guys with your squad. Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren make up Willis’ crew.
Catch this 2010 action-packed comedy and its 2013 sequel at the start of August! With a tale full of action, laughs, and the power of friendship, it’s the best way to start the month.
August 2 – Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie
Genre: Animation, Adventure-Comedy
Bikini Bottom is in trouble (again), and it’s up to our plucky fry cook protagonist, SpongeBob, and the can-do attitude of his friend, Sandy Cheeks, to save the town with…the power of Texas.
Yep, you’ve read that right. Our duo will travel to the land up above and recruit the help of Sandy’s Texan relatives. Tom Kenny, Carolyn Lawrence, and the rest of the voice acting crew are back to do these iconic voices.

August 6 – Reminiscence
Genre: Thriller and Neo-Noir Sci-fi
The mind is a powerful yet feeble thing, and memories often get lost and escape us. In the neo-noir world of this movie, a detective (played by Hugh Jackman) tries to uncover lost memories to solve cases.
But in one case, he bites more than he can chew and ends up uncovering memories that shock his own mind. Conspiracies, a missing person, and dangerous mystery are afoot in this 2021 film. Rebecca Ferguson, Thandiwe Newton, and Nico Parker are also in this detective thriller movie.
August 16 – The Union
Genre: Spy-Comedy, Action-Thriller
Mike is just your ordinary guy who’s living his best ordinary life as a construction worker. He puts in the work, gets the job done, and goes home to his peaceful life.
But after reconnecting with his high school sweetheart, his ordinary life flips in an outrageous way, as he gets roped into a secret spy mission! Super spies, secret agents, and the fate of the nation might have to rest on this construction guy’s shoulders.
Mike is played by Mark Wahlberg, while Halle Berry plays the alluring spy-sweetheart. This is a 2024 Netflix Original and you can only start watching it on August 16th.
August 21 – Nice Girls
Genre: Action-Comedy
For something different and non-Hollywood-y, give this 2024 French comedy a try. Like other entries on this list, this will satiate the action-spy fans with its mystery and action-packed plot, while also giving you the giggles.
Police officer Leo learns a piece of devastating news about her colleague. But when she tries to get to the bottom of the incident, her boss stops her and reassigns the case to a highly trained (and highly attractive) super cop. Leo has no choice but to play nice and team up with her.
This is one of the new movies on Netflix next month and will be added on August 21st. Alice Taglioni, Stefi Cela, and Noemie Lvovsky star in this fun action-comedy romp in Nice, France.
August 22 – Secret Lives of Orangutans
Genre: Nature Documentary
Popcorn movies are fun and all, but it’s always a good idea to enrich our minds with something educational and not just junk food entertainment. For your next watch party, take a peek at the secret lives of one of our closest relatives in the Animal Kingdom.
This program follows a group of orangutans in a Sumatra jungle. You’ll see their nature, relationships, and struggles in their everyday wild life.
If you’re wondering who narrates this, nature-docu enthusiasts will be happy to know that the legendary David Attenborough will be the one to recount the lives and movements of these great creatures.
August 23 – Incoming
Genre: R-Rated Comedy
The struggles and intricacies of adolescence can be quite tough for new teens. Luckily, these four young freshmen students have each other’s backs as they try to navigate their new teen life in high school. But the moment they step into their first-ever grown-up party? Hilarity and chaos ensue.
If you want to relive, laugh at, and cringe back to your high school memories, this is a great way to start that train of thought! Bobby Cannavale and Kaitlin Olson are just some of the crew in this coming-of-age tale.
August 30 – The Deliverance
Genre: Horror
The month is ending scarily strong with one of the best new movies on Netflix in August 2024. The Deliverance will spook you to your core as you watch how a family moves to a new home and slowly gets harassed by inexplicable forces.
Not only is the mom (played by Andra Day) fighting evil spirits in her new haunted house, but she also has to go through real-life struggles with the government to protect her family, too. We don’t know which is worse!
Glenn Close, Caleb McLaughlin, and Miss Lawrence are just some of the cast that join Day in this spine-chilling film.
