Operation Black Ice is probably one of the most popular content updates there has ever been for Rainbow Six Siege which is quite impressive for being the first major one! So how much content is here that makes it so famous?

First off, Black Ice introduces a R6 Yacht map that is completely frozen and abandoned in the Arctic. The Yacht is huge which makes the map incredibly cool to explore around but can be difficult to play in due to just how spacious it is. However, you can take advantage of this with multiple Rainbow Six Siege places to hide and shoot from to sneak up on your opponents.

The update also offered a bunch of popular R6 skins that are now considered incredibly rare and valuable. A lot of the skins can be difficult and expensive to find and get today, but thanks to the new Rainbow Six Siege Marketplace opening, this might make it much easier to snag some of these skins for both your weapons and favorite R6 operators. Just be sure to pay attention to the price tag.

Now we get to the meat of the Black Ice update which are two operators that it added. Both have the potential to be incredibly powerful when played correctly and while utilizing certain strategies as each comes with their own special gadgets. Even today, both Rainbow Six Siege operators are iconic in what they have to offer after all these years.

The first R6 operator is the Defender named Frost. Frost has the average health and speed of other Rainbow Six Siege operators, but her special leg-trapping gadget can lower that for others. This gadget is the MK2 LHT. It is a floor-mounted trap that when stepped on will trap the leg of an enemy operator. Think of a bear trap but not as sharp.

The trap is completely undetectable by scanners and is pretty dark in color which helps it hide much more easily compared to other trap gadgets. When an Rainbow Six Siege Attacker operator activates the trap, they will immediately be put in a downed state and can only be rescued by reviving them manually through another Attacker player. This makes this gadget incredibly deadly when used against someone.

The trap can only be deployed 3 times, so placing it in wise locations is absolutely necessary. This can make Frost a more difficult R6 operator to play as a new player as she requires a very good knowledge of the maps, she is playing in to know the best places for her traps. However, with enough playtime, Frost can very quickly take down the enemy team while keeping her hands clean.

The best Rainbow Six Siege places to use Frost’s traps are in places where players cannot immediately see them and have limited movement. For example, placing a trap underneath vaultable windows or tables will force players to land on them no matter what if not seen prior. They can also be used to block certain hallways and rooms or at least slow players down when noticing them.

Now that we have gone over the Rainbow Six Siege Defender, there is the R6 Attacker that comes with Black Ice. Buck’s special power or gadget works a lot more complicated compared to Frost’s. Underneath Buck’s weapons, he will have a special shotgun called the Skeleton Key. Thanks to it being mounted, this makes switching between the two almost completely seamless and quick.

But what is the point of being able to switch to this weapon quickly if you don’t know what it does? What makes it special? Well, the Skeleton Key shotgun is extremely powerful to an intense degree. Not only is it able to take down Defender R6 operators very fast, but it can even break down barriers with no problem too!

The R6 Skeleton Key is also very good at not just breaking barriers, but also walls. While almost all guns in the game can make big enough holes at a time into a wall to shoot through, the Skeleton Key can do this very efficiently. With other guns, it will require multiple shots to create a clear line of sight, but the Skeleton Key does this with ease.

Overall, Buck’s Skeleton Key is commonly known as the best shotgun to break unreinforced barriers quickly in all of Rainbow Six Siege. With this in mind, Buck is the best choice for breaking through the map and leading your team closer to the R6 Defenders. The Skeleton Key is also amazing for combat due to not just its power, but its pellet spread.

The pellets that shoot out of the Skeleton Key are great for doing some extra radial damage to barriers and Rainbow Six Siege Defenders. However, the real combat power that comes from the Skeleton Key is whenever the enemy is up close and personal to you. This way all the pellets that shoot out are guaranteed to hit your enemy and do even more damage.

Another fun part about playing as Buck is not just his ability to break through walls easily, but also floors. A common and fun strategy that some players use is to shoot through floors with the Skeleton Key shotgun to quickly destroy several surrounding gadgets and players. If you play your cards right, you can maybe make them fall through the floor too!

There is a lot to love about the Rainbow Six Siege Black Ice content that makes it easy to see why it was and still is super popular among the Rainbow Six Siege community. Frost and Buck do not disappoint with their special gadgets and the possibilities that come with them. This is not to mention the beautiful map and skins to collect that make this update live on through 2024. Look to see which R6 operators are considered the best to date here!
