That is at least what it can look like at first glance, but there are ways to make one quickly and easily. After a while, you’ll be making games in no time flat!
The easiest way to make a Roblox game quickly is by using and building off a template. These templates can range from being very simple platformers with some blocks to full-on worlds with an ocean and island. It all depends on where you are looking and what you want to create. First though is finding these templates.
To help quickly find some Roblox game templates, you will need to download Roblox Studio onto your computer. This can be found on the Creator Hub site which is meant for all of Roblox’s game creators. It shouldn’t take too long to download as it doesn’t take much space and the launcher itself is pretty simple.
Once Roblox Studio has been downloaded, you can go ahead and open it up. There you will immediately be able to see a bunch of templates underneath the ‘All Templates’ tab. You will also want to make sure that you are in the ‘New’ tab on the left sidebar to find the correct templates you will need.
There are lots of templates to choose from but to make a game quick, we can start with a simple platformer. On the Roblox Studio, there is an Obby template that contains a bunch of platforms that players can traverse across. However, there are still plenty of other simple templates such as Combat or Racing templates that can also be used to make a game easily.
Looking at the Roblox Obby template, you will see a platform that will state where players will be spawned onto the map. This will be labeled as ‘Start’ to signify where players will start in your game. This can be edited if you would like, but otherwise, you can move yourself around the map with WASD and your mouse to check out more of the template.
After getting a better feel of how the template looks and how you want it to change, you can start with the colors. In the Obby template, for example, you can change the colors of each platform using the color wheel provided by the Roblox Studio. It is fairly easy to navigate, and you can feel free to experiment with the colors and how you want them to fit into your game.
You can also move and change the size of the items placed on your template. For the Roblox Obby, you can select some of the platforms and change their size or where they are located. This can be good to make the game more challenging to get through and therefore more fun for your players! The same can be said for any game template that you use.
To resize or move an item such as one of the platforms in the Roblox Obby template, you will need to click on it to select it. After highlighting what you would like to move, look at your ‘Home’ tab to click on ‘Move’ next to the cursor ‘Select’ button. There you will be able to move your item with several different colored prompts and arrows to drag.
Speaking of Roblox items, you can add a ton of different item assets to your game using the sidebar on the left. Here you can freely search for whatever premade item you would like to use including moveable and interactable ones like Roblox vehicles, buttons, etc. You could also create your own, but that’s a process to go over another time.
Looking at the Roblox Obby template again, you will notice some purple platforms which are called conveyor belts. Any platform that is highlighted purple this way in Roblox Studio will mean that it can always move at a certain speed. However, you can change this speed if you would like to or turn it off completely.
To edit the speed of a moving platform or obstacle, you will need to look at the Explorer window on the right side of the screen and look at its drop-down options. From there you can view the dropdowns underneath the Configuration folder and click the option for Speed. From there you can change the number value to change the item’s speed, so feel free to test it out!
Next are obstacles that can harm players and make things a bit more challenging for them. For example, the Roblox Obby template has red highlighted blocks that will harm players when touched. You can choose to move obstacles around or resize them to make them more or less obvious. Nonetheless, it is always good to have a few around to keep players on their toes.
Not only can you move any Roblox item or platform that you’d like on a template, but you can also tilt them in different ways too! By selecting an item or a platform, you can then select the ‘Rotate’ button on the ‘Home’ tab to control the tilt in whatever ways or direction you’d like. Make your Roblox map look interesting!
After everything that you have edited, added, and designed in your template, you will have successfully created your own game out of it. The very last thing to always remember to do though is test it as much as possible to see if you need to make any final touches or polishes.
